Sacred Cacao Ceremony: A Red Tent Event

Cacao Red Tent 2

 My Journey with Sacred Cacao

Two years ago, I stepped into my first Sacred Cacao Circle.  The circle was ripe with possibility…..and so was I.   I was greeted there by some of my dearest friends who had experienced cacao in the Highlands of Guatemala with a man many of them referred to as the Chocolate Shaman….also known as Keith.  He was there that night, in the little city in Texas that I call home.  The Chocolate Shaman had come to us.

As I drank my first cup of warm cacao, I felt my heart open.  My body felt relaxed and alive all at the same time.  Keith made his way to sit with each of us, encouraged us to work with one another, to simply hold space, and not try to heal or fix.  He was showing us that we each had what we needed already.  We didn’t need someone to swoop in and make it all better.  We could do that and the Cacao would help.

The Cacao opens the heart ….literally oxygenates the blood.  And if you think in spiritual terms, you may also feel it working to open the figural heart or energetic heart as well.

I bought my first batch of cacao that night.  It is very different than any chocolate you can buy in the store.  It has properties that aren’t refined out of it.  I began drinking it on my own and with friends.  Keith came back through a month or so later, and I knew my intention for that circle was to gain his blessing for working with cacao in circles not much different than his.  I walked away knowing that Cacao work would be an important part of my life journey.

I have been using Cacao weekly as part of a group intensive held by RevShar from Lucid Waking.  The work has been deep and cleansing.  This year I have head several private Sacred Cacao circles.  My calling is to hold a circle open for those who wish to connect with their heart.  The Cacao just can’t help but open us up there.  Although, I will say, it will not take us where we do not wish to go.  It isn’t forceful like that.  It works better with a slight smile and the energy of letting go or doing nothing.  Then it seems to just flow you into a new understanding of yourself and Existence.

An Invitation to Tend to Your Sacred Heart

Recently, the desire to share Cacao with others has become even stronger.  As I have been enjoying my journey with the local Red Tent gathering, I decided to bring the Sacred Cacao out with these ladies.  Red Tent is open to any woman.

Full Body…Full Moon

Body Wisdom Project

Full Body…Full Moon

I am honoring my Full Body this Full Moon.

We love Her full body…can’t keep our eyes off of it.

She fills up the sky with a brightness that draws us out, into the dark.

We turn our heads to Her.

Call friends and family to point out Her majesty.

We tell stories about Her, that old woman in the sky.

I say, “She is my Grandmother….

Our roundness and light run in the family!”

And so, this month, as I look into that expanse above

With adoration for Her Fullness,

I will remember that what I love in Her

I should also adore in myself.

An Invitation to Celebrate YOU

I want to invite you to do the same.
Yes, you….Round Woman, Full WombMOON!

Every woman has some Roundness to her.
Round Hip,
Round Breast,
Round Lip,
Round Shoulder,
Round Belly,
Round Booty,
Round Minded,
Round Hearted.

Look for opportunities to bless the Roundness
in your life this MOONth.

Bringing Your Creativity to Life

Create a Full Moon altar….
an art installation in your bedroom or a special space in your home.
Here you can add reminders of how you are the same as Her.
Place a Round bead there or stone.
Light a candle.
Adorn your body. Move in celebration of your curves.
Anoint yourself with oils.
Pretend to BE the Moon….full, majestic, magnetizing!
Write a poem or letter to your Roundness…to your Fullness.
And discover what blooms in you as you honor all that you are.

Simply Sacred Moments

Simply Sacred

Have you ever had one of those moments when your heart was deeply stirred by something simple?  Like the hummingbird gathering nectar from the flowering tree just outside the front door, or the gratitude that wells up when another really hears you.

We expect greatness to move us.  That is often why we turn to grand events and ceremonies when we need to connect with the sacred.  We also often have a tendency to believe sacred is something others create and we witness.

During my studies of theatre, I discovered that historically performance grew out of religious ceremony.  Song, art, poetry, movement, writing, and drama all have the potential to connect us with something greater than ourselves. That is why those are often components of our big rites….birthdays, baseball games, opening ceremonies, etc.  I enjoyed exploring what that meant for me as an individual by creating sacred moments in my everyday life.

My Simply Sacred journey began with making the space around me feel better.  I arranged the room and the things in it so that it felt inspiring and peaceful.  Then I played with setting up areas in the house that were reminders to me of what was important.  One of my first tablescapes was a collection of things that belonged to my mother, a picture of her, and a small vessel with some of her ashes.

Tea Altar

I found that for some people that kind of arrangement might be called an altar.  The word altar means table.  For me, the altar was not about worship, but more about an expression of what was important to me, what needed attention in my life, what desired change, and at its most simplified, an installation of found objects that when brought together stirred my heart, my imagination, and my inner wisdom.

IMAG3553-1-1

Those early installations have grown into a whole aspect of work that I do in my community.  I create simple ceremonies to honor various parts of life….. births, weddings, personal transformation, rites of passage, and even the passing of a loved one.  Sometimes the ceremonies are so simple it feels like people getting together with just another layer of meaning added to it.  Other times the sacred moments are more fleshed out and formal.

This week my family and I came together for a Simply Sacred Moment to honor the passing of our cat, Schatzie.

Schatzie Art

 (Schatzie means Sweetheart in German.)

Schatzie is one of several cats that have made their home with us.  She has the honor of being the first though.  She announced herself the day we took ownership of our home (which happens to be 8 years ago today).  She was a dear part of our home.art cats

She would never drink out of a bowl!

Schatzie Studio 404

We honored her by creating a small resting place for her in the back yard under some shade trees.  In her little grave, we placed a painting on paper…because she never let us do art without wanting to be smack-dab in the middle of it.  We added some watermelon pieces….her favorite food, of all things!  Shook out several drops of peppermint essential oil because she was a bit addicted to the smell.  We picked sunflowers and offered them along with our favorite stories of her.  We used items from the garden to create a mandala over her resting place and erected a small impromptu work of art as a marker.

The ceremony was simple.  It was mindfully thrown together and not planned.  We all gave of ourselves in a creative way, thinking a bit outside the box. And when we were done, our hearts felt lighter and more peaceful.

Schatzie Big Eyes

I want to encourage you to use your Creative Spirit to create Simply Sacred Moments for yourself.  They are a great way to bring meaning and magic into your life.

Dear Grandmother Moon: Creativity Prompt

Illuminated Moon

Dear Grandmother Moon

Your light in the sky surprised me tonight.  I have been so focused on what was just in front of me, so focused on what greedily grabs my attention, that I forgot to look up and out.  Yet, even in my self-absorption, you show me how to glow in the darkness of night.

Dear Grandmother Moon

Sometimes when I gaze into your face against the velvet cloth of night, I can feel you like the shining light of a thousand loves beckoning me to remember who I am.

Dear Grandmother Moon

I recall a night so many years ago when I leaned back, cradled by the Earth, and traced you with my finger tips.  You were so far away but felt as close as a dear friend.

Dear Grandmother Moon

I know that tomorrow your light will wane.  As you shrink in size, help me not forget that the process of your coming back is a mirror to all the waxing and waning of my own bright self.

Message to Grandmother Moon:  Begin your correspondence with the archetype of Grandmother Moon by sitting quietly, allowing yourself to dream on what you might say to her and what she in turn may share with you.  Allow yourself to sit for awhile with floating thoughts until you feel the impulse to go to the page.  That may mean moving from the outdoors to the indoors or turning on a light to help you capture your message.  Let the message come as a sentence, a full letter or a drawing.  There is no right or wrong with creativity.  I would love for you to share your message with us.  You can share a link to a post in the comments or share directly in the comments below.  The Moon inspires….let her inspire you!

This SENSE-sational Life: Sense of Self

sensational

One day while sitting and thinking about my life, I realized it was just sensational.  I asked myself what made me move from not loving my life so much to being in this new place.  The answer came to me that I had connected with the senses in a very broad way.  Yes, the traditional senses had been part of it, but subtle senses were also part.  The sense of joy, a sense of gratitude, a sense of connection….when we tap into linking our conscious self with subtle parts of the self and the world around us, we can follow a path that leads us to a more SENSE-sational life.  Sure…it is a play on words, but try it and you may see it is also a great tool for falling in love with life.

Sense of Self

Today I am delighted to share a story that is unfolding in front of our eyes of a woman opening up to her Sense of Self. Nicole Bray is a woman who was born in a man’s body.  Her mother, Carol Bray, is a dear friend of mine and an artist I adore.   Nicole has undergone surgeries to alter her body so that it matches the Sense of Self she finds peace with. But her transformation is not yet complete and being in-between is a rough place to for her to be.

I share her story because if is brave, gives us the opportunity to support her and her mission to help others and because it is ultimately about Creative Living.  And Creative Living is what Creativity Tribe is all about.

This story is a bit edgy because it traces a theme in our culture that many people either are not comfortable with or stand in strong opposition to.  Being a Creative can also be counter culture.  But that is not the place I wish my visit with you to go for very long.  I hope you will hold onto the human aspect of what I share.  I am sharing a person who is discovering after a lifetime of deep unhappiness how to connect with who she is, and she is creating that self for the world to see.

That also is probably too simplified.  So this is probably a good time to invite you to let Nicole share her story with you.  And how she is moving towards her Sense of Self.

Follow the Impulse

FollowImpulse

My dear friend Jessica with Wild Heart Holistics often talks about “following the impulse.”  I remember her talking about it years ago when she was leading dance classes.  She wanted us to pay attention to how the impulse wanted us to move. At first I didn’t fully understand what she meant, but over time, I found myself trying to detect the impulse so I could follow it.

The impulse isn’t something that lives somewhere in the body and yet, that is where it comes from…the body…from our being.  For me it can come from different places…. a radiating wave of urging from the heart, a subtle knowing in the brain, a quick jump of the gut, a sharp pull on the shoulder blades as if we had wings that wanted to jump into motion or the echoing of many senses that pull the whole self towards a resolution.

Detecting an impulse is a very subtle art.  The impulse is often buried under foggy awareness so that it doesn’t occur to me that I have had an impulse for minutes, hours, or even days later.  But once it is detected, I know it as if it were a good friend.

Now days I have gotten really good at first detecting and then following the impulse.  When I act on it, I am often led to beautiful synchronicities.

Unicorn Magic

A Recent Impulse with Big Rewards

The listening…..

A few months ago, Jessica invited me to offer my art and share about the essential oils I love at the Earth Day Care Fair for her church.  I was in the middle of healing from surgery at the time and had no idea what the outcome would be or what my energy level might allow. But, there was this impulse to join in.  Finally, I decided to follow it.

I spent a few weeks preparing.  I got busy painting, bought a brand new Easy Up (purple!), and gathered the essential oil goodies I wanted to offer.  It felt good to work again.  Felt healing to dive into the paint.  And the nights that I stayed up bottling samples were delightfully aromatic.  I was having so much fun. (If you take a long breath, you might even be able to smell the wild orange and peppermint I have going right now in my diffuser!)

First reward….

A few days before leaving for the EDCF (Did I mention it was out of town ….about a 3 hour drive?), I posted a few pics of my art just to show my friends what I was working on.  When I woke up the next morning, I had an offer for my little unicorn (the background art for the unicorn above).  I knew then my impulse was taking me on a ride!

Double feature…

My artist hubby, Eric, and I headed out for our trip.  We visited Rose Duncan of RoseHeartNSoul Creations & Coaching for her art show at Intermezzo Gallery and Studio in Boerne, Texas.  The show was beautiful.

It was exciting to see so many art lovers doing their thing.  As the visit was about to wind down, the impulse took over and made another synchronicity bloom.  The manager of Intermezzo, Kathy Cody Gallaway, introduced herself.  We got to talking about my art. Rose suggested I share art images from my phone, and before I knew it, I was their newest artist!  Intermezzo is representing 12 of my mixed media works.

What is even more exciting is that we started talking about me potentially teaching workshops at Intermezzo.  Rose and I are collaborating on one right now that is very near and dear to my heart involving Artist Trading Cards.  The other involves a labyrinth walk and processing with art.  I can’t wait to see where that all goes.

Did you know I love labyrinths?  They often show up in my art… and on the beach when I have a few friends to make them magically appear!

Irene Jaan takes her turn at drawing out the labyrinth’s circuit.

They keep coming….

Later that night, Eric and I ended up at Jessica’s house and began telling her about the exciting news.  As we were talking to her a friend wrote me about doing the cover work for an upcoming book and I got a message about a return coaching client wanting to continue our work together.  All this before the actual Earth Day Care Fair even began.

The EDCR went well.  I shared the oils with lots of folks and did some really fun trades for my paintings.  Then, out of the blue got another message that a friend who had seen my paintings online when I post pictures of my booth wanted to buy my owl painting.

Owl Be Here

And when you get it all….

All that bounty in the course of three days was amazing for me, especially after a year of putting off so much of my passion as I pursued a victorious outcome with the uterine cancer.  I found myself that weekend holding up a new realization that I really could have it all.  Success with all my passions….  art, workshops, my love of essential oils, and life coaching.  And not only could I have it all, the Universe was sending signals for me to get
exactly what I was wishing for.  The trick?  Follow the impulse.

Blogging at the Speed of Life

new life

Sitting in front of the computer, I don’t know where to start.  Blogging has been the most dedicated practice I have ever had in my life and the last 6 months Life pushed me off my game so I could pay attention to it.  This Summer I got sick and discovered I had uterine cancer.  It took awhile for me to get the surgery that was recommended.  But Life has its way of moving you into what is important. Its trick:  The more I needed to slow down, the less my computer worked.  I was pulled far from my blogging life.

Surgery behind me now….Today I woke up at 4:40 a.m. missing this space so much.  I grabbed my laptop and headed out for Sandi’s Diner.  Sandi is a dear friend who makes a mean breakfast at the break of dawn.   AND, also has internet.  SCORE!

The big question….would my computer work there?  Was something wrong with my internet or with my laptop.  If you are reading this, you will know the answer.  What was impossible at home is working like magic here.  Maybe life is just letting me loose.  Saying, go…spread your wings…you are free.

And that is how I feel these days.  Free.

I spent last month traveling back and forth to Houston’s MD Anderson, a world class cancer hospital that happens to be in my area of the world.  My hubby, Eric, went with me and several times we comment how we felt wrong for having such a good time at the hospital.  But they must have someone trained with running big places like Disney working there because it ran like a theme park.  I like to joke that they have a game you play there….take off your clothes, put them back on…take off your clothes, put them back on…and I was winning.  Yep, lots of tests.  Then the surgery.  And just last week, a check-up.

womb doodle

They feel like my prognosis is really good.  It doesn’t seem to have spread. YAY!  So they will keep an eye on my health every 3-4 months.

I chose the word THRIVE as my word of the year for 2014.  That’s what I am doing!

I have some catch up to do for Creativity Tribe.  My email has been down.  I hope to have that working in the next week.  If you tried to contact me and didn’t hear back from me…it was a little email snatching gremlin.

Big beautiful hugs to each of you.

Increase Your Level of Bliss

time to thriveI just love it when the Universe whispers messages to me over and over again.  Recently the message has been, “Up your tolerance for bliss.”  It is a backwards way to think, really.  Bliss isn’t something you imagine should need tolerating.  But the truth is, it can be an intense ride.

This messages was first something I felt.  About a year ago I had a couple of back to back months when I experienced extreme levels of happiness, felt like I was in my zone, and detected intense waves of ecstasy coursing through my veins.  I was hitting the mark on so many of my dreams and life was just plain good!

I identified all that as bliss.  If I had been any happier, I might have exploded.  I wondered if I had maxed out on the amount of happiness I could handle or if perhaps I might be able to adjust my inner bliss threshold so that I might eventually withstand even more.

SnowDancer

Months later while listening to the audiobook Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity by Edwene Gaines, I heard her mention that this was an important aspect of prosperity.  She suggested that to follow through with calling more abundance into your life you would need to be able to stretch your capacity for bliss.  Later that same day, I opened one of Danielle LaPorte’s Truthbombs only to find that exact message staring at me from the computer screen.

Ah, I thought.  This message is for me. And so, I am setting out on a journey to consciously increase my tolerance for bliss.

“How does one do that?” you ask.  Indeed,  I am beginning by asking myself that same thing!  Curiosity is a great tool for creating life. I believe that my creative spirit must surely know, and so I have invited it to show me the way.

Journey to Increased Bliss

To help me stay on that path, I have chosen the word THRIVE as my word for the year.  I imagine that when one is in a state of thriving they are experiencing levels of BLISS.  Perhaps the two words are sisters!

The Blessing of a Year

2014 banner

I love this year, this 2014.  I think that is a strange thing to feel, though…love for a year that has yet to take off. But perhaps what I really feel is deep, abiding hope and compelling possibility.

1467477_10200640611171766_411952274_n

I felt this same way at the beginning of 2013.  My imagination was alive with amazing projects that were ripe for springing to life. But the year had other things in store for me. It held the secret of forced healings in areas of my life I had pushed aside as I charged forward in my career as a Life Coach and Creativity Guide.

As I write this, I am tempted to throw all my realizations, wisdom, and stories out for you to witness. But this year has been so personal and so magical that sharing it feels like shining a bright spotlight on something better served by cradling it up close to the shadowy protection of a subtle internal light….the light of one’s own heart.

peace face rachel payne

The important part to take from my year, if you want to take anything at all, is that those shadowy, difficult times when life throws challenges your way can be the answers to the wishes you have been making for yourself with that still, quiet voice you can barely hear.  We all have those deep yearnings whispered when we look at the places within ourselves that cry out for peace or release.  Sometimes growing into all we want for ourselves must come from personal healing and soul searching.

life is a journey

And so, for me 2013 brought huge shifts into deeper understanding, forgiveness, acceptance, and celebration through paths I never would have called in consciously.  But am grateful for none the less.

And 2014?

It will wrap up some of those realizations and help me put a bow on the big package filled with 2013’s blessing, but will also leave space for me to pick up and re-examine those original amazing projects.  Some will fall away, having lost their energy, others will rise to the top for me to cultivate with a new, inspired perspective.

In these first days of the new year, I welcome the balance of both.  I am still toying with this fresh place while reaching for the great heights I see myself shooting for.

I hope this in-between time finds you contemplating what last year meant for you while throwing seeds broadly into the months ahead.

Happy New Year, Creative Spirits!

May it be blessed by all it brings your way!

Studio Tour

About two years ago when I jumped into shaping Creativity Tribe, I turned a little sunroom on the side of my house into Creativity Tribe Studio. From this space, I pull together what I love to do and send it out into the world to touch the lives of other Creatives and Creative-Wanna-Be’s (which is simply the name I give for those who have not yet discovered they can trust their wish to create the lives they wish for). I make my art here, spin visions for better lives with my coaching clients, blend up lovely combinations of essential oils, drum, dance, sing, pet cats, hug friends and above all…hold the space for the play and healing that comes when Creative Spirits come together.

Here is a tour of Creativity Tribe Studio…. through the lens of Instagram.  It is a new toy for me…one which I am in love with.  If you are on Instagram, I hope you will follow me.  It will be a fun way for us to connect.  If you don’t have Instagram…just a note, you don’t have to have an iPhone to use it.  That was my impression.  So….join the fun!!!  You can find me @CreativityTribe

Hope you enjoyed the tour.  Lots more images on Instagram and more to come! You can find me @CreativityTribe
