    Giving Heart

    Yesterday I wrote about this yearning I had to give more mindfully this year and to give in new ways.  Then, I turned around and found a beautiful affirmation of giving reflected to me by a dear friend.  I feel extremely blessed to have a very special circle of women who have been by my side as we have together discovered the exquisite nature of being a woman.  Milena Worsham of Running Buffulo Journeys is one of those special ladies. Our circle began forming about ten or so years ago.  We were all coming into our thirties or would be before long and were on fire with a desire to…

    Make More Art from the Heart

    It’s been a whirlwind day.  I started by creating a care package for a dear friend who is going into the hospital tomorrow.  I created a few coloring pages for her with small poems circling around them, threw in a few black and white copies of my favorite drawings and a new zine my husband drew up last month.  I tucked inside one of my dreamcatchers and a few notes from some shared friends. Not long after that, my hubby and I drove out to meet her and her hubby. First I shared the care package, then we headed to dinner. It was a great visit. I have been thinking…

    Art Making Marathon

    Yep, I am stretching, getting all pumped up, and ready, because this week I am going the extra mile. I’m doing an Art Making Marathon in the Creativity Tribe Studio. On the agenda: more wire dreamcatchers, a wire dragonfly, a few painted birdies, and some little paintings. …..and maybe a few other goodies!  My sister-in-law, Erica Duff, has a new salon that blends her love of doing hair with her love of handmade art.  Oh, and I can’t forget her love of all things feathered! Feather’s Beauty Lounge I few months ago I decked her walls out with some of my paintings, and now, for her first big event (a…

    When Life Clicks

    Have you ever had a time in your life when you wished for something to SHIFT?  When you WISHED for a more refined way of living?  Where you yearned for a life in ALIGNMENT with your heart’s deepest desires? Well, the last month, something is just clicking away that keeps guiding me there. Click, click, CLICK!  Life is clicking.  There isn’t one thing I can point to and say, “This was THE thing!”  Instead it has been more about listening and taking small steps towards the small WHISPER inside. We all have that whisperer who lets us know what the NEXT RIGHT STEP is.  All it really wants is to…

    Paint Mojo {Lotus Pond}

    I have been sitting with my Paint Mojo Texas experience, letting myself gently make my way into a fuller understanding of the process and what it means to me.  One part of the weekend keeps standing out and is ready to be shared. The second morning we were at Paint Mojo Texas, Tracy Verdugo, our teacher, took a walk out on the dirt roads of The Lotus Ranch.  After lunch, she asked us to join her for an excursion.  We blindly followed her, as we had all weekend, but instead of trustingly delving into the landscape of our imaginations through paint and brush, we made our way to a lotus pond.…

    Dreamcatchers

    One of my favorite art projects recently was one I did for the gals at Paint Mojo Texas.  It was a labor of love for sure.  I made 20 little wire dreamcatchers to give to them during the retreat.  I chose dreamcatchers because I wanted something that reflected the word Mojo.  And dreamcatchers, a few days before Halloween, did just that. I worked on an extra one today that is going out in the mail to a friend who I originally met on the blog I had before Creativity Tribe. She has been an integral part of this dream for me, supporting, encouraging, sharing her wisdom and creativity.  She is one of…

    Circle Art

    This last week when I attended the Paint Mojo Texas Retreat with Tracy Verdugo, we spent time exploring our personal symbols.  I have to confess that jazzed me like nobody’s business!  I like symbols.  I look for them out in the world, in the way of logos, graffiti tags, signs, patterns, etc.  I collect books that explore ancient markings including hieroglyphics, runes, labyrinths and mazes. This evening at the bookstore, I sat, listening to folk music and letting my pen explore the page.  I began with one of my favorite symbols, the simple circle.  I added marks, allowing my hand and mind to automatically go from one strata to the…

    Healing Art

    Several years ago when I was very sick, I made my way back to health while preoccupying myself with little drawings. I called the simple little sketches my Fairy People, although they rarely had wings and some were even skeleton folks.  I think I must have thought of them that way because something in me felt like modern medicine and even alternative medicine was not fully helping. I unconsciously turned to my imagination to help me escape the pain and wished for an ounce of magic or miracle to cure me.  Something I was doing worked. When I drew, the pain left for a bit. And eventually I recovered. I…

    Festering Eyeball Pudding

    I have been straightening my studio, re-organizing it really.  Oh, how about a little peak in the studio!? We had a Witches’ Ball at the house last night for Halloween.  But before the party, I snuck into the studio for a few pics of my handmade witches hat. Yeppers, I was having fun with the camera!   I also created a necklace filled with dehydrated prince charming (just add water and a kiss…simple spells are always my favorite!) One theme of the party was to bring food with gross names. My offering: Graveyard Gruel (Texas Chili) and Festering Eyeball Pudding (grapes, tapioca pudding, and pecans…actually VERY yummy.) We had a…
