I am going on retreat. Funny, one of the last times I wrote, I was headed off to a retreat. This time, instead of facilitating, I am opening myself to the opportunity offered by another. I am headed to a retreat hosted by Red Tent Experience Retreat.
My first Red Tent was at the opening of
Things We Don’t Talk About: Woman’s Stories from the Red Tent
with filmmaker Isadora Gabrielle Leidenfrost, PhD.
Do you know about Red Tents?
I went to my first about 2 years ago and was so thrilled by the sisterhood I found there that I began investing in that community by offering workshops and “happenings”. It has become a place of deep meaning and magic for me…..the kind of magic that comes for loving life.
This is my office transformed for a Red Tent event. See?! Magic!
Why Retreat?
Retreats invite us to go into a space of exploration. Depending on the retreat, you may explore a specific topic like an art technique, or you may explore personal growth. My favorite retreats do both those things, using a theme to take you into a journey of the self.
Preparing for Retreat
I like to do a bit of personal work before a retreat, whether I am offering the retreat or attending.
- I ask myself what my intention is.
- I journal and begin exploring the theme or intention.
- I am encouraging myself to take a break from social media and technology as much as possible in preparation.
- I gently clean up my diet so that I enter the retreat with a stronger connection to my body.
- I gather any special item/s I might like to add meaning to may sleeping/teaching space. I might bring a crystal, picture, decorative cloths, journal and essential oils.
Creating Mini-Retreats
I want to invite you to retreat a bit this weekend. Take the next couple of days to envision what that might look like. Make it simple. Make it easy. But do it. If even for 30 minutes or an hour, allow yourself to retreat into your creative spirit, your beloved sacredness, into the wild within.
Commitment to Self, Witnessed by Others
Take a moment to claim your commitment in the comments below. Become accountable for your personal self growth. Let us know you want to claim that for yourself. And I will send you some good vibes on my adventure. You deserve it!!!

Beautiful post!
Thanks, Sandra! I enjoyed out time together!
This is very inspiring! Hope you had a magical time at your retreat. I’m hoping to build up the nerve to attend one or writing this summer or fall. In the meantime I love your idea for mini-retreats. 🙂
They are one of the best things I have ever done for myself! Good luck…dive in!
