Full Moon Meditation

Body Wisdom Project

I have been watching the Moon.  That is what I do, I am a Moon Gazer.  She is getting closer to full.  I love watching her wax and wane.  It reminds me of our impermanence, of our ability to change, and that for more years than we know, our ancestors have looked to the skies and felt the movement of Mystery in their lives…just as we do.  The Moon is one of my very favorite parts of this life.

The Moon reaches fullness today.  During the Moon’s course from dark to full and dark again each Moonth in 2013, I have committed to focusing on a word chosen by myself and my dear friend Jessica of WildWood Naturals. We are naming the Moon according to the word we are centering on.  We call this one Reflection Moon.

Reflection Moon

Tonight on the way home from a Coaching Session, I stopped the water to sit with the Moon.  The sky was completely cloudless and the water calm.  I felt like I was in a movie. Perfect.

The light of the Moon reflected on the water, reminding me of the Body Wisdom Project word for the month.  I slowed myself down and got comfortable.  Reflection….I went inward.  So much busy-ness bubbled around inside.  I thought of the water and invited myself to get calm.  Looked up at the moon and asked what of myself wished to grow into fullness.

My breath fell into a rhythm, my heart keeping a quiet beat.  A nuance came over me…a feeling.  It seemed to be showing me that my spiritual life wished to grow into fullness.  When I named it…spiritual life…in my mind, my inner knowing-ness responded with a feeling of peace.

The road trip I am taking in April is leading me to a fuller spiritual life.  For me, like with everything, creativity is at the heart of my spiritual life.  I look forward to watching it take shape.

I would love for you to reflect on what wishes to come to fullness in your life. Leave a comment letting us know. When you claim something in writing or out loud, it gives it strength and energy.  If you don’t claim it here, consider giving it voice somewhere in your world.

Are you interested in joining me for the Journey of the Inner Wanna Be’s… an inward exploration of those parts of ourselves we don’t often let out to play?  I will be engaging my Gypsy Wanna Be, but your Inner Wanna Be choice is up to you.   Be sure to keep visiting over the next week, I have some super fun parts of the event planned!

Body Wisdom Project {believe}

new moon

Twice a month I check in here to fill you in on the Body Wisdom Project I am doing with Jessica of Hearth Roots.  Body Wisdom Project represents our desire to have a deeper connection with the body.  We began on the first New Moon of 2013, choosing a word to carry us through the Moonth.

I named that first cycle after the word we chose, Listening Moon.
I posted for the New Moon and Full Moon.

 Body Wisdom Project

 Reflecting on January’s Listening Moon

We chose the word Believe as our focus for 2013’s second Moon cycle.  To be honest, I have no idea where following that word and paying attention to my body will lead. But that is one of the things about this journey that I like.  I want to go on an adventure with this.  Even during the Listening Moon, I started off with a heart intent on some sore of transition but had no idea what would come of it.

It has just been one cycle and already change came with the listening.  It has been an exciting month for me and my body. I feel as if a communication highway is being built.  Some of my thoughts….

  • I don’t want my relationship with my body to be future focused…always wanting something better, fighting what it.
  • My body needs me to love it as it is….in the now. To love its grey hair, wrinkles, roundness, aches, and pains …..to love the glow of its smile, the rhythmic beating of its heart, the hop and drop of hips while dancing.
  • My body thrives when dance is part of my life…..so does my soul. In one month, I went from dreaming about dancing to putting action to those dreams.
  • My body craves food and water when I listen to it.  Some of its cravings…. root veggies, sweet potatoes, chocolate, more protein, less carbs.
  • My body has a story that isn’t over. It has been through lots.  It could tell you a story of woundedness, of mistreatment, of rejoicing, of healing, of being.  The story evolves. The story is mine to craft.
  • Listening to my body creates change in my body.

February’s Believing Moon

The Believing Moon cycle is before me.

Where will it lead?
What will I do with the word?
What wisdoms will it share?

 I look forward to the journey.

Full Moon Mindfulness

Body Wisdom Project

A few weeks ago, at the dark of the moon to be exact, I began a personal exploration of my relationship with my body.  I am approaching this journey with my friend, Jessica.  We call it the Body Wisdom Project.  Our intention during this moon cycle is to LISTEN.

It seems like a no brainer; LISTEN to the body.  But how often do we do it?  How often do we get quiet enough to tune out the world and  its messages and messiness, and tune into the body’s subtle whispers.  How often do we follow the body’s advice?  How often do we honor the wisdom it offers?

The Body Wisdom Project puts LISTENING at the center of what I value during the day.

Full Moon in Trees

Connecting the Body Wisdom Project with the cycle of the moon has helped me connect more deeply with my body.  Towards the end of 2012 I offered a moon wisdoms e-course called Touch the Moon.  The course helped me amplify my awareness of the moon, its rhythms, and meanings.  As I have watched the moon these past couple of weeks since the Body Wisdom Project began, the connection with my body has grown more intense.  Something has shifted.

I began at the dark of the moon, when the moon was void of all light, and have continued to allow my connection to grow as the light of the moon has.  The moon has become an outward reminder of an inward journey.

Where the journey has taken me…

In the first couple of days as I listened, I became aware of some of the aches and pains in my body.  The most prevalent one being a pain I have had in my neck for nearly 6 months.  I asked what the neck needed. I discovered that it is very tense. I often tighten it for no reason. And so as I listened more and became aware of the tension, I would send my breath to the muscle and invite it to release.  This has been very helpful and has brought me some relief.

I also heard my body telling me it was thirsty and starving.  These surprised me to some degree.  When I asked what it was starving for, I discovered that I need more greens and root vegetables.  That is how I fell in love with brussel sprouts.

This week, I began hearing that my body wanted to move….more specifically, to dance. I reached out to a friend and on Friday we met at my house to dance to Gabrielle Roth’s Inner Wave.  Gabrielle’s dance is spiritual, mindful, meditative. It didn’t take long for me to find myself in a sort of communion with my body, tenderly moving it to its own rhythms, taking on the shapes that gave meaning to what it needed to express.  Expressions like….relief that I was willing to honor it with this delicate movement, grief over the messages it receives from the world, delight at the memories of dances past, hope from more dancing in the future, dreams of bringing moving meditation to others.  All that wrapped up in the nuance of a flit of the hip, a carefully placed step, breath pulled in and guided out, heat across the brow, a growing joy in my spirit.

With the arrival of the full moon on Saturday, I payed special attention to the body.  I LISTENED.  And heard….rest.  And so these last couple of days, I have given myself rest as the body has needed it, letting go of any notions that I need to get more done.  The body says rest.  And I am trusting that the rest will be just what I need.

Join Jessica and me in LISTENING.  Let’s start a movement.  A gentle, loving movement.

Body Wisdom Project {Listen}

A few days ago I picked up an old journal. Inside I found an entry about wanting to pay closer attention to my body and promises that I would practice more self-care. The shift in my relationship with my body from that time to this is quite apparent.  Self-care one of my personal core values.  But, I crave a connection that is even deeper. I crave more peace, less doubt. I crave a level of understanding and interaction that can only come from a practice of listening to the wisdom my body offers.

This idea isn’t new to me. Over the last several months, I have been preparing to make this shift along with a dear friend of mine and dedicated blogger, Jessica from Hearth Roots. Mine and Jessica’s friendship has been centered around body wisdom from its very beginnings. She was my dance instructor, and I, her massage therapist. Several months ago we started seriously considering how to get the same level of connection with our bodies that we had in the good old days, when we were dancing regularly, when we were both wrapped up in finding a life mate, when we were discovering who we were as women.

BodyWisdomProjectBadge

We each wanted to tap into our body and seek it’s guidance and direction for the journey it wanted to lead.  We named our shared adventure the Body Wisdom Project.  It begins today, on the first New Moon of the New Year.

We have chosen a word to guide the Moonth’s focus: LISTEN.  As the Moon makes its way from darkness to full light, we will discover what it means to listen to the body and what the body wants us to know as we listen.  We will each share parts of our journey and lessons with you on our blogs and on a website we are creating as a sort of sacred meeting space for anyone interested in joining us in the Body Wisdom Project.

New Body Wisdom Moon: Listening

I close my eyes.
All around me are the swarms of life among which my body exists.
The rat-a-tat-tat of a game played in the next room,
neighbors or perhaps even strangers talking in the street in the middle of the night,
the cold, wet air of Winter seeping in from under the pier and beams.
Slight, sweet taste of pecan from dinner contrasts
the uneasy ache of restless nights that hibernates between my shoulders.

What does it mean to listen?

My awareness turns to the body.

Are the senses part of the body?
Those are the intelligence gathering agents between body and the world it lives in.
Separate. But related.

What does the body have to say tonight?

Breathe….she says.
Breathe in peace.
Rest in the breath.
Dance with the breath.
Know that you are the breath and the body.
You are the knowing.
When you show up to the body’s wisdom,
You are showing up to YOU.

With gratitude for the listening….

Creativity Tribe 2013

creativity_tribe_2013

So many new things are going on here at Creativity Tribe in the New Year, I figure I better start talking about them….if for no other reason than that I just might pop from excitement if I don’t!

First, I have begun fleshing out the tribe aspect of Creativity Tribe.  I have been asking myself how do I reach out to more Creatives, connect with Creatives from different disciplines, and help the people who resonate with the idea of a Creativity Tribe connect with each other. I have also been exploring how to offer opportunities for connecting with and celebrating ourselves!

Here’s where I am at……

{This Sensational Life Challenge}

 I have reached out to Creatives from a variety of disciplines to join me in an upcoming blogging series that focuses on the senses. This Sensational Life Challenge is an opportunity to delve into the rich experience that life has to offer.  Each week, we will explore some aspect of life that one might say is sensational.  I have included some of the original senses, but being a Creative, I just had to stretch the concept to other less traditional senses.  So we will be playing with the sense of touch, taste, hearing, etc. but will also explore, for example, concepts like a sense of direction, knowing, or letting go. One thing they all have in common is that they will help you tune into This Sensational Life. (I hope you are digging on my play of words.  It is certainly done on purpose. I think the more we engage our senses, the more ALIVE we feel, and the more alive we feel, the more we connect with the essence of who we are!)

I don’t want this to be JUST about the posts though. I am pairing each post with an invitation for you to share your perspective and experience on the week’s focus.  Dive into the senses with me!  Discover a new sense with one of our guest bloggers. Craft your own sensational life, one week at a time, one day at a time, one vibrant moment at a time!

 {Body Wisdom Project}

 Starting the first New Moon of the year, I am joining with Jessica of Hearth Roots on a project very close to my heart. The  Body Wisdom Project invites us to listen to our bodies, to ask ourselves, “What if my body is my teacher?  What would it want me to know?”  BWP will offer 13 Moonthly themes that will encourage us to cultivate a relationship with our body like never before.  Jessica and I invite you to join us on the journey.  More information about this, including a peek at our shared website will come soon.

{Creativity Tribe Teleseminars}

 One of the best parts of being the curator for a space like this is getting to interact with the Creative Spirits who find their way here.  When I first started out on this journey, I wished for rich, meaningful interactions. Well, this year, I want to invest in that possibility even more, so I have created a series of teleseminars that will give us the opportunity to invest in our own creative journey while connecting with others who are on similar paths.  Each event will include a time in which I share tips, tricks, or hints for improving or understanding some aspect of life to help you move into the flow of a life well lived.  I will open the call for questions a hot seat coaching.  Hot seat coaching is short and sweet coaching sessions that dive in and help you get a direction for moving towards what you want in life. Calls will be recorded so that if you are unable to make the time, you can still gain from them by listening at a later date.  I am beginning the Creativity Tribe Teleseminars with 5 Secrets to Getting Out of Your Own Way Everyday in 2013 and Getting on with a Sensational New You.  You can register for the series here. And meet me the second Wednesday in January for our inaugural call!

{Coaching ….me & you}

Above all the wonderful plans I am making for 2013, having the opportunity to work with other creatives to craft their lives, their businesses, their sense of self, their creative growth, their projects, and their dreams is at the very, tip-top of my list of favorite things.  The relationships that come out of coaching are extra special. They are a blend of gentle guidance and a shared journey. They are about personal growth, creative aspirations, and meaningful connections. This kind of one-on-one work will support this community in a profoundly personal and deep way. If you are interested in learning more about working with me, you can find that information here. I would love to visit with you to find out if we are a good match.
