Play at Work
When I went out on my own and began Creativity Tribe, I knew I wanted to live what I believed. I knew building a business that valued play at work would boost my creativity and be an investment in my wellness at the same time. I knew play at work was imperative for creativity, and creativity was at the heart of my business.
Scheduling Play
I took my play at work seriously, scheduling it into my business life.
- Play dates with other artists.
- Engaging play in my artwork.
- Private dance parties for personal celebrations.
- Eccentric glasses.
- Encouraging my inner child in every day interactions.
Oh yes….
and mandatory Crazy Hat Days.
Hats! And not just in Winter months. Any opportunity to show off my head gear, I am the first to dive in.
Summer months, I had a blast wearing goodies during Summer Art Camp. Art shows and festivals mean fairy garland, and annual Halloween gigs let me show off my handmade witchy garb.
The power of play isn’t just for me. Play at work is infectious. It makes others happy to see me pushing the boundaries of creative play. They want to join in. It gives them permission to live more freely. It links strangers together in the magic that is Creativity Tribe. So I keep it up!
Since my work can often be done on-the-go, it isn’t unusual for me to take crazy hat day out into the world. On days when I really need to reach high for inspiration, I grab my pipe cleaner pink flamingo hat. It is the pentacle of play at work!
Creativity Tip: Consider how you can invite playing into your work life. Even in small ways, play is a powerful asset!
