Supernova Woman

The Full Moon was waiting for me when I went outside this evening.  It surprised me.  I had been waiting for her, but I got busy with life.  Before I knew it she was there, hanging out on the edge of the neighborhood, wanting to play.  This is my first full moon after the end of my Touch the Moon e-course.  Offering that class was intense in the best way. It encouraged me to show up daily for several months and be in touch with that celestial beauty in the sky.  In turn, I was more in touch with myself.

So here I am, a full moon in the sky and so much on my heart.  As the end of the year grows closer, I feel the pull of potential and possibility in the new year.  My mind is expanding like a supernova. Exploding with ideas.  And each idea heads out into the distance to connect with another dreamer, creating a project here, a circle of commonality there.  Behind the scenes I hold my arms out like a grand spider weaving together all the projects, whip stitching this hope to that thread of stardust, stretching my heart out to cradle it all.  It is scary, exhilarating and illuminating all at the same time.

I am SuperNova Woman! ZoomZoomZoom…. She-Bang! Bathed in moonlight.

Tonight’s full moon practice is inspired by one of the projects that comes out of that explosion of possibility.  The project, which is a collaboration with my friend Jessica of Hearth Roots, isn’t quite ready to be unveiled for the world, but I am ready for it.  The full moon feels like the right time to begin it.

And so my practice tonight is to move my body. To listen and then move.

And then listen some more.

Simple, but powerful.

Today’s AEDM offering is about that same kind of energy. The lotus blooms in stillness.

It came out of a meditation. Expansive lotus with palm open to the golden heart.

When Life Clicks

Have you ever had a time in your life when you wished for something to SHIFT?  When you WISHED for a more refined way of living?  Where you yearned for a life in ALIGNMENT with your heart’s deepest desires?

Well, the last month, something is just clicking away that keeps guiding me there. Click, click, CLICK!  Life is clicking.  There isn’t one thing I can point to and say, “This was THE thing!”  Instead it has been more about listening and taking small steps towards the small WHISPER inside.

We all have that whisperer who lets us know what the NEXT RIGHT STEP is.  All it really wants is to be heard and to be in relationship with someone who will put that guidance into ACTION.

What does your WHISPERER share with you?  Where does it invite you to grow or let go?

My Art Every Day offering for the last couple of days has been art done through my business.  I taught a class for the Art Museum of South Texas on Saturday, performed a wedding Sunday morning (yah, I do that…and LOVE it), and Sunday evening did a Vision Board Coaching Session with a couple.  It’s been a busy, but awesome weekend!

These two pieces were inspired by Patty Palmer’s fall leaf project from Deep Space Sparkle.

Circle Art

This last week when I attended the Paint Mojo Texas Retreat with Tracy Verdugo, we spent time exploring our personal symbols.  I have to confess that jazzed me like nobody’s business!  I like symbols.  I look for them out in the world, in the way of logos, graffiti tags, signs, patterns, etc.  I collect books that explore ancient markings including hieroglyphics, runes, labyrinths and mazes.

This evening at the bookstore, I sat, listening to folk music and letting my pen explore the page.  I began with one of my favorite symbols, the simple circle.  I added marks, allowing my hand and mind to automatically go from one strata to the next.  Gently, but quickly, a mandala appeared.  A mandala is a symbol which is said to represent the inner self.  It is like taking a snap shot that reflects some aspect of the self in that moment.

These mandalas were drawn during one of the few rain storms we have had this year. The lightening was so frequent friends kept saying it looked like a disco outside.  The water means a bit of relief from the drought.  There is something psychologically renewing about rain, especially when the world is turning brown from a lack of it.  These mandalas call forth renewal, growth and abundance….for the city around me…and for the part of myself that needs to be quenched.

Gifting

I have added a new page to my site (oooo, just LOVE doing that.) I hope you will check out.  It has another kind of mandala….a Self-Care Mandala. Head over and get a copy of it, then let me know how it works for you!  It’s a freebie!

Check out the other AEDM entries for Day 4!

Big welcome to all the other AEDM’ers. I would like to invite you to add your creative art site to the Faces of Creativity Page if you feel called to join us.  Help me meet a goal of a total of 50 links on that page by the end of the month.

Let’s grow a tribe, together!

Choosing this Moment

Most of us say to ourselves, “I want to be more creative. I want to do more art.”

Today is in front of you. This moment is begging for you to choose IT, shouting, “Pick me. Pick me.”

And when you do, you are really picking yourself.

It is just that simple.

Cheating Death

I faced Death today.

It is part of turning my life around. I decided a few days ago that I would change my story to change my life. The main goal: to finally be rid of the nagging feeling that I would die at the age of 45 like my mother and her father both did.  With 45 only 30 months away, I felt if I was going to change my story, this would be the time to do it!

I started by going to the place where the story lives, inside me.  Shall I take you along, as if you were there? Let’s go.

I got very still and focused on the feeling of urgency that has been following me around saying, “Girl! You better start living because you’re about to be dying!”

I asked myself, “Who is saying that!”

And I heard a voice, low and soft, down by my feet say, “Me.”

Suddenly I felt something holding me by the back of my ankles. It occurred to me that it had been there a very long time, so long that it began to feel like it was actually a part of me, but it was not. I looked behind me, and there it was, stretched out prone on the ground like a long shadow, Death.  I heard a part of myself say, “If you are going to face Death, you have to FACE it!”

So I took my hands and pulled the attachments off of my ankles. They stuck like moist tar in my hands. I knew I would never be able to shake it off alone. I got down onmy  knees, then elbows, and finally stretched myself out on my stomach. There it was, the face of Death. Breath, wrank. Eyes, hollow and vast. Suddenly, I began to panic.

Saying, “This feels real. This thing in front of me doesn’t feel like it is in my mind, doesn’t feel like it is a story. It feels real. I am holding the hands of Death….my Death. I need help. I can’t do this by myself.”

At my side, a woman knelt down.  I knew she was there to answer my call for assistance. She reached out and scooped the stick tar hands off of me. I sat back. I checked in with myself. I felt safe. I watched her.

She pulled Death to her. It changed in her hands (as it would several times over the course of our time together). It crawled into her lap and curled up like an ailing elder. “There, there,” she whispered. I felt myself relax a bit. I breathed a sigh. Death seemed less scary, almost wounded. I looked at Death. It was emaciated, drawn in on itself, exhausted.

“It has been a long journey,” she told Death. “You are tired.”  I could see Death’s story, much like I could see my own. It began with my Grandfather. Death had come for him early in life. He was a proud, energetic red-headed man who enjoyed the great outdoors. When he died, my mother picked up his story and with it, Death.  So it stuck around and attached itself to her. When 45 came, Death did not want to take her, but Death was tired. When she passed, I picked up my Mother’s story, and Death attached to me. Now three generations into Death’s journey, it sat in the arms of this compassionate woman, ready to be free of its office. Death had started out wholesome, in the service of nature. Death had become sickly and twisted. It was time to let it go.

Behind the woman, three figures appeared. One was a maiden, one a mother, and one a crone. My energy piqued. The Fates!

The woman told Death that the Fates would help it heal. She told Death to stand up. When it did, it transformed into a young woman, 21 years old. I was shocked. How could Death look so young?! I remembered that I was 21 when I took Death on.

“You can’t be 21!” I told Death angrily. “You are not me!” I looked at Death closer and realized it looked like my 21 year old self. “You can’t be 21,” I said softer. And Death changed again, looking as I do today. “No,” I said. “Older, much older.” Death transformed a third time. This time into a woman wise and peaceful, with enough wrinkles across her smiling face to know she lived a good, long, peaceful life filled with joy.

I smiled.

Death turned and walked towards the Fates, giving a nod of appreciation to the kneeling woman.

Then it was my turn to be transformed by her. But I will save that for my next post.

I want to thank you for your out pouring of support as I change my story. Some of you have left private Facebook messages for me or messaged me as part of groups I am in. I am amazed at how many people hold onto this same story or another story that isn’t in line with their wishes for their lives. I am changing mine, and I invite you to change yours. I will share my path to wholeness as an example. Until next time……

Life in All Its Fullness

We all have a sacred path we sit in front of, sacred in the sense that it calls to our very soul. It whispers  in the darkness, twinkles around us in the light of day, makes us feel alive as we move down it or encourages us to wish for some place new when you have forgotten it and lost your way.  The path is like this huge magnet that directs our lives or makes us fight hard to move against it.

We travel the road on our own, but if we are lucky, it runs parallel to the roads of others who are on their own shiny path.  Seeing them live out their passions is contagious. We wish the same for ourselves. We are inspired.

If you found your way here today, maybe you feel the call to travel your own sacred path. I am here on my bliss passage encouraging you on. Close your eyes and let its whispers grow louder and more focused, let it tell you exactly how to get there. Let it describe the path to you. Today you will get a few details, tomorrow more. When you can see some portion of it, take one step in the direction of your dream…..and then another. Let the momentum take over and the fears fall to the wayside. Feel that bright spot? Feel that exhilaration?  Feel that zeal….that’s you on the path….that is life in all its fullness.

You’re doing it.  You are doing it!

My Creative Growth

When I started running my own creative biz, I made a decision that the best way to guarantee that I could be the best I could be was to regularly practice self-care, schedule opportunities for continuing education, to play, and to live authentically….scars, beauty marks and all.  This is what I am doing for my creative growth.

Coaching School

Yep, I have headed back to school!  I LOVE learning.  A few years ago, I completed my Masters in Counseling, and now I am fine tuning my love of helping others by joining Brandi Graves at iCoach University for coach school. I will be wrapping up my coach training soon, until then, I am enjoying the experience. Brandi is motivating and inspiring.

Business School

I told you…headed back to school.  I am taking Simply My Harvest – Starting Your New Business, a great e-course taught by my friend, Connie Rawlings. Connie is a living paradox. She is a CPA and a SCW (Super Creative Woman).  Her class blends the two and has been a delight to take. It didn’t take long for me to relax into learning what I have for most of my life been afraid to look at. But, if I am going to work with others to face their fears, I might as well join the party!

Traci Bunkers 30 Days of Get Your Art On

I discovered Traci last year. She has lots of energy and amazing ideas. I had a blast making flip-flop stamps from her video last year and have incorporated several of the stamps I made into my art. I started the challenge on the first and will be keep up with it through October. You can find pics of my art projects on the Creativity Tribe Facebook Page.  It’s not too late to jump in. If you are doing the challenge, make sure to drop me a line with your blog so I can share the experience with you.

I am also working on a few projects that I hope will help you take care of your creative growth. You can subscribe to the newsletter, Facebook Page or RSS feed to stay connected. Either way, make sure to check back soon for all the SENSATIONAL details.

Creativity is….

I throw the word creativity around a lot. It is a product of leading a life that is packed full of creative endeavors. I take my creativity with me everywhere, and even at home, it is front and center. I might as well have it tattooed across my forehead!

With that kind of focus on a word, it isn’t surprising that nearly daily someone announces to me that they are not creative. They always say it like they are apologizing. They want to be creative but aren’t….in their eyes. I think what is happening, though, is that they have a pre-conceived notion of what creativity is. They have placed it on a pedestal so high that their out stretched necks can’t really see it.

When I can, I sit with them and try to help them redefine, reframe, re-member the essence of creativity. I flesh it out for them so that they can understand that it is not a high art, but instead something organic, manageable, and personal.

Creativity is…. the ordinary made meaningful.

Creativity is….powerful and playful.

Creativity is….risky but rewarding.

Creativity is….available to all of us.

What is creativity for you?

Listening Inward

I like to know where I stand.

I like things spelled out in black and white.

I like things tied up, nice and neat.

But sometimes life gets messy.

And we have to let go of what is safe….

And reach for what is right.

If we are lucky, we will find the path that is made for us.

But how do we know when it is time to leave the proven for the possible?

We listen inward.

What do you hear when you get quiet and go inward?
