21 Days of Self-Care: Re-Treat Yourself Well

It's time to retreat yourself well. 21 days of self-care

21 Days to Re-Treat Yourself Well

(This event is closed.)

The need for self-care seems to hit when it is most inconvenient. Life gets busy.  Life piles it on.  Someone you care about needs a little extra care….or a lot.  And you are lift wondering how in the world to make it all work without dipping into reserves that already feel shallow.

Several years ago at the height of “going places” in my career as a helping professional, I got a hard taste of burn-out. Finding my way back to center meant balancing my busy schedule of pursuing my dreams while also committing to a consistent practice of meaningful self-care.

I have found that weaving this self-care into the rhythm of life is ideal.  If we make plans to take care of ourselves the same way we plan for taking care of business, we can have both.  If we don’t, we are often left wanting more of life and not having the energy or focus to make it happen.

With that in mind,  I have woven a spirit of renewal into a 21 day self-care e-course with Re-Treat Yourself Well.

When self-care takes a back seat, you can feel low of spirit, low of energy, and challenged to find your way back to the bright side of life again.

That is why I have designed Re-Treat Yourself Well, a 21 day self-care e-course, in a way that helps you consistently schedule a tiny bit of time for investing in yourself in a big way.

Sacred Cacao Ceremony

Sacred Cacao Ceremony. An invitation to tend to your sacred heart.

Sacred Cacao Ceremony

I’ve just come from guiding a sacred cacao ceremony. I playfully call it the Chocolate Temple Journey.  It was an intimate gathering.  Each individual came for their own personal reason. We each sat, sipping a cup of warm, rich chocolate made with sacred cacao from Guatemala. We shared what called us to explore our inner landscape during this particular gathering. And then, each of us gently opened ourselves to the see what aspect of life wanted to join our collective playtime for the evening.

Chocolate Temple Journal, reflections on sacred cacao and the inner templeCT Blog Line Page SeparatorThis Chocolate Temple Journal is a collection of my personal reflections on sacred cacao and the inner sanctuary of Self and Source.  I share some of my thoughts here to give you an idea of where the spirit of cacao can take us when we invite it to partner with us on a journey of self-inquire and self-discovery.

Excerpts from the Chocolate Temple Journal

The chocolate elixir was especially creamy tonight…and the cayenne pepper gave it a good kick! I remember thinking that it was as rich and silky as the deep ah-ha’s the group shared with me.  I remember thinking the circle of my cup felt like a tiny representation of the Universe…the Universe I live in and the Universe that exists inside of me.

Sacred Cacao Ceremony with Rachel Payne of Creativity Tribe

Big ideas often come after drinking cacao, and this sacred cacao ceremony was no different.

I felt clumsy in the beginning.  But in all actuality, that was perfect.  The group was small, made up half of cacao ceremony regulars and half of those new to the plant and the process.

I could sense excitement and a bit of discomfort in the group.  I think the discomfort was simply coming from walking into a new experience.  Even those who had come many times to sit with cacao had never come to a group soley guided by me.  I spontaneously found myself talking about this place we found ourselves in….this Unknowing. I felt Spirit guiding my sharing.

I dove in….

I confessed to feeling clumsy.  I confessed to feeling starkly aware that we were all moving into uncharted territory….especially those of us who were used to drinking cacao together for years in a circle guided by another who we all respected dearly and had gotten into a comfortable groove with.  I confessed to feeling nervous about showing off my own personal groove.

I felt naked….but calling myself out, transparently claiming my vulnerability felt empowering.  I laughed and boldly stated that my intention for the night was to lean into my experience and courageously be as clumsy and awkward as I needed to do what I felt guided to do for the group.

They all laughed with me.  I gave myself permission to showed up flawed and authentic, and as I did, I felt the group shift.  They leaned into the Mystery of the evening with me.

And the Mystery was beautiful.

Surprise Gift from Universe {Holding Sacred Space}

Surprise Gifts from Universe

I have decided to engage a little experiment with the Universe this month.  I am asking it to open up the field of possibility and shower me with gifts.

Surprise Gifts from the Universe: Everyday a Party!

What abundance of support there is in this life!

Last week I listed the surprise gifts I recognized from the Universe but today that didn’t feel quite right.  Maybe it is the state of mind I am in as I am sitting down to write this.  I feel so grateful for the people in my life.  I have so many rich relationships and many of them are based around personal growth and discovery.

I have had various times in my life when a circle of friends has come together to explore something meaningful.  Those times feel like eras that I am passing through.  Now is one of those times.

This era of my life is so intense…in a good way.  I meet weekly with a meditation group and we do beautiful, deep, expanding, transformative work.  Then I get to come here to Creativity Tribe Studio and spin that personal work into a tapestry of writings for you.

The Universe has placed on my heart to open Creativity Tribe as a circle in and of itself.  I don’t have the in’s and out’s yet, but I can feel it forming.  I wonder if you will be part of it.  That would be a definite surprise gift from the Universe!

NEW: Free Gift to Boost Your Creativity!

I hope you will head over for my free gift.  I really put lots of love and energy into, wanting it to bring creativity to your life and life to your creativity!

Hello Summer

creativity_tribe_meditation

For the last several months, I have been attending a local Wednesday night meditation group that is exploring the use of cacao as a partner in our personal work.  The group is hosted by Rev. Shar of Lucid Waking, a show on A2Zen.fm.  Cacao is the plant that chocolate comes from.  Yep, I indulge in the yumminess of chocolate every week.  You know that feel-good thing that happens when you have a piece of chocolate?  Well, the kind of chocolate we use is very pure and has the qualities you would find in chocolate from heritage breed plants.  Even taking a little makes you feel a lot good.

We also practice taking that feeling the comes from smiling…that little glow you can detect all over….and amplifying it.  So we will be gathering on this first day after Summer Solstice to have some chocolate while we grow our smiles…. or perhaps I should say GLOW our smiles.

I have made a video to explore the light and the dark.  Let it be an invitation to you to connect more with the light that lives within you.

(Note: The images used in this video are taken using kinetic photography at night. They are of the Harbor Bridge in Corpus Christi, Texas. It is lit with lights that put on a show every night.  Enjoy!)

Curious About Cacao?
For more information about Ceremonial Cacao and Going to Glow, please visit Keith….lovingly known as the Chocolate Shaman.  His site has lots of great information…. and while you are there, make sure to check out the quality of his smile.  When you look at someone and can sense the peace in their heart the way I believe I can with Keith, you know they have something worth listening to.

Plant a Kiss, Too!

giving quote
In the spirit of Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s work,18 bloggers set out to “Plant a Kiss” in the world on April 29. We each did something we thought would spread a little extra joy, color, connection, poetry, or magic in the world. Then we watched to see what would happen!

Today all of us are posting about that experience.

Plant a Kiss Blog Hop Party

This was my second Plant a Kiss celebration.  Last year I met with a few local creatives to make a labyrinth on the beach for others to find. It was one of the highlights of 2012 for me.  This year, I wanted my kiss to keep the same spirit of celebration but knew I would be celebrating on the coat tails of a long journey that took me up the middle of the U.S. and back again over three weeks.  I made self-care a priority for the day, but balanced that with a deep desire to share myself with others in a meaningful way. Since GIFT is my word for the year, I wanted my Kiss to be about giving.

The target for sharing my kiss this year was on the other side of the North Atlantic Ocean in Guinea, West Africa.  If you have looked around on my website, you may have discovered The Benkadi Project page I have dedicated to work being done in the capital city of Conakry and in rural villages there.  I didn’t pick the Benkadi Project out of a book or by running my finger across a map to choose a place. I chose it because I met a man, Fodé Cameron, and a woman, Helen Bond, last Summer who are doing beautiful work there and I wanted to somehow be part of what they were doing.

Helen Bond

On my trip to Wisconsin, I stayed with her….Helen Bond.  As luck would have it, my travels took me to her area on a day when she was hosting an event to help build biosand filter units for families through her non-profit, The Benkadi Project.  The event featured West African drumming and provided education about the work they were doing.  The Benkadi Project was planting major kisses that night by being one shy of reaching their financial goal to build 50 units.  The water treatment will serve 50 families of 10 people for 10 years.  That is 1,825,000 days of clean drinking water.  I adored getting to be part of that!

biosand filter

For Plant a Kiss Day, I celebrated the good will I got to be part of and sent well wishes in the form of a meditation to Helen and the team she will be taking to Guinea later this week.  As part of my celebration, I lit a candle and spent some time playing a drum that was made by Fodé.  I also spent the day drinking water mindfully, being grateful for the easy with which it arrives to me anytime I need it and for the fact that it is safe and satisfying.

This year’s Plant a Kiss was very simple, but I think that is the beauty of giving.  It can be just a thought, a wish, a prayer or can be traveling across an ocean to make a difference.  It is amazing the feeling of love it can bring to your heart when it is based in genuine caring.  I think that is probably why it is called Plant a KISS.

If you found your way to this page or have been hopping along visiting others who are part of the Plant a Kiss party, I would like to encourage you to thing of some way you can Plant a Kiss, too.  Close your eyes right now and invite a simple act of giving to come into your heart.  Let your mind work out an easy way to implement that, then join us!  Let’s make the world a bit love laden today.
