Celebrate with Me

celebrate 2

Last year on this day, I was in Austin, Texas chasing a dream.  For years I had wished to move my thriving blog Art of Collecting Yourself to a more fleshed-out website designed to let me do more of what I love….connect with Creatives.   Finally….the day arrived.  I had joined a website publishing challenge called One K in 1 Day and found that one of their meet-ups for support was in Austin.  So I headed out with a goal to actually publish the site on the day of the event.

I put in lots of time before hand.  I selected a theme and then tried to figure it out which also meant figuring Photoshop out.  Yikes!  Day by day in the month leading up to the event, I crafted the bones of my very first website.  It was one of the biggest creative challenges of my life.  But given how much it meant to me, I thought it just might be worth it.  And I was right!

Today marks my one year anniversary of the website.  Earlier in the summer I quietly celebrated 3 years since I started blogging.  All tolled, I have published a whopping 499 posts between the first blog and this site.  Wow!  That is an average of over 3 posts a week.  Can you tell I love writing?!

My posts have slowed down recently a bit as I am upping the self-care, taking care of my sweet little womb.  (For more details you can catch up on Boldly Saying the “C” Word.)

The year to come is so full of potential and possibility.  I just can’t help but wonder what I will be sitting and typing about in September of 2014.  I hope it will mean more beautiful connections with those who find their way here, more magical moments of understanding and loving myself, and more big dreams to spin into reality.

I want to close this post with huge thank you from the bottom of my very deep heart!  Every day someone from my creative community touches my life in ways that are big surprises to me.  They share themselves, their creations, their hopes and allow me to serve as witness.  And more and more as I go down this new journey of healing my body, that same community is rising up to offer their support and love to me.  I can’t tell you what a huge gift this is.  Life is good!  Thanks for being part of mine!

Creatively yours,

Creativity Tribe First Month-iversary

Sometimes my head is swirling with ideas that are so intense I think it will surely spin right out of control. I can get dizzy with exhilaration when my imagination is in overdrive like that. I pull together projects in my mind, dream on art concepts, work to solve problems, or toy with how to make life even more beautiful than it already is.

The last couple of months have been a wild ride. Some days I felt high with the dreams I had for my website. Other days it was all I could do to manage the reality of walking through the fear of not know how to create what I wanted. But I persevered and here we are with a brand spanking new website that is much better than I thought I could ever pull off.  (I am still amazed.)

Creating something often takes us into the unknown. Heck, that is half the thrill! We move through each wall that shows up in front of us and do our best to manage the urge to run away screaming when something goes wrong.

Having others to walk you through a project can always help. Having the crew from Startup Training School and amazing support from the U-Design Theme I chose is a big part of me getting through the ONE K in 1 DAY challenge. But, my own willingness to fight through the fear is really how I won the race.

There is a term I like to keep in my back pocket called self-efficacy (ef-uh-kah-see). Basically it refers to a person’s thoughts or feelings about how successful they are in general.  Boosting your belief in your ability to be successful can actually help you be more successful.

Success feeds success.

Building my website over the course of a few weeks provided a major hike to my ego. I faced an obstacle that had loomed in front of me for over a year. On the other side, I feel like a bonafied bad-ass!  I spent several days stretching my dreams to grow in proportion to my new sense of self-efficacy. That is to say, I can do more in my mind, so why not be more in reality!?

I know, I know, it is not proper to be so confident about our accomplishments. But that thinking really limits us. And I am ready to let go of limits and embrace possibility. It feels so freeing.

Your Turn

Put your successes out in front of you, even if they are small. They all count. Claim some area you were able to conquer, even if it was a thousand years ago. Hunt for something you accomplished in the last 24 hours. last week, month or year, even if no one else would say it was big enough to count, grab it and love that thing. Whatever your success (and we ALL have them) own it, nurture it, be proud of it. It can help you bring more success into your life!

Claim it here with us. Success is contagious. You look at your friend who wins the race and say, If she can do it I can!  What inspirational story will you share with the tribe today to inspire them to raise above their doubts in themselves?  What will you claim? I can’t wait to hear it! I am already so proud of you.

I sent out the first Creativity Tribe Newsletter today. If you would like to receive periodical updates on what is going on with CT, head to the top of the page and subscribe. Creating Sisterhood

I didn’t grow up with a sister, but I always wanted one.  I remember meeting girls and then women and asking myself what it might be like to have them as a sister.  Over time, some friendships grew strong and felt so vital that I would think, “This is it. This is that sister thing.”

Occasionally, I would find an organized group of women, an organic circle, or a small bunch of friends who might transcend the norm for closeness, support, and encouragement. I revel in those times. There is something about cultivating close relationships with women that sends me flying.

That is what got me so excited about joining ONE K in 1 Day with Startup Training School. I had visited with web designers for about a year, promising my dedicated blog readers a website where we could stretch our legs out a grow a little. First I promised it would come before Christmas, then just after the first of the year, Summer (definitely Summer)….I was exhausted by my own promises.

One of my best friends and I sometimes go months without talking. She called one day and we did a quick catch up that included me talking about the frustration I felt about not having a site up. That’s when she told me about the event. The goal was 1000 women publishing their own websites all on one day. I couldn’t help get excited about it.

You see I have had this stereotype knotted up in my head that the Internet was something that men, especially young men, had more knowledge about than women. It fell in the same group as electronics and science, when in actuality, studies are starting to show that women are leading usage in many tech categories. So having that many women flooding the net at one time felt like a force, like a wave of creativity coming down the pike. So I jumped on.

I loved the energy of creating with all these women. I loved watching them struggle and move through to success. And I loved that feeling of sisterhood that came out of it. This is perhaps the most global feeling of sisterhood I have ever experienced.  I am so truly proud of us.

If you would like more of the story, head over to Startup Training School and let our fearless leader Lea Woodward fill you in on the stats and give you a peek into some of the experiences that the ladies had.

AND……oooo, this one I am excited about…..if you get a chance, hop on over to the Wall of Websites featuring our web-designing sisterhood…..including a fabulous pic of the Creativity Tribe homepage!

Where do you create sisterhood?  What makes a regular friendship different from one that you consider a sister-ship?  Let us know in the comments.
