A beautiful symphony of self-care practices is coming together for me right now. Looking at having surgery sometime in the not so distant future, I have been checking in with what the physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies need. So often they are intertwined. Our physical body has aches and pains that call attention to emotional wounds which point the way to spiritual shifts.
Part of my treatment for all three (physical, emotional, spiritual) is to check in with the physical body first and allow it to point the way to the needs of the emotional, finally, letting the spiritual do the work. For me, creativity and intuition are a huge part of my spiritual life. They open the door to deeper awareness…inevitably offering deeper healing. For the month of October, I will be sharing some of my Body Wisdom Cards with you for Body Wisdom Wednesday. You may find that they tap into any of the three bodies mentioned above or into a combination of them.
Today’s cards were inspired by my interview on Become Soulfully Connected Telesummit. The interview is up for about 24 more hours. There is a free gift called the Creativity Booster Pack that I hope you will check out!
It was also inspired by Jon Gabriel’s 21 Day Meditation for Weight Loss Challenge. Now I am not one who is a proponent of diets for myself. I really believe they have messed up more than they have helped, but Jon Gabriel’s mind-body approach to weight loss is very different and revolutionary as far as I am concerned, so I jumped at the opportunity to take part in the challenge. And so far it is delightful and inspiring!
My Body Wisdom Cards for Today
I started working with my Body Wisdom Cards by listening to the mediation Jon Gabriel sent out today. It was centered around the affirmation… “I radiate health and vitality, I naturally release excess weight.”
Next, I checked in with my intuition as to what essential oil I might use to support a deeper understanding of all three levels of the body.
I chose Wild Orange, a happy scent that is both uplifting and calming at the same time.
This is an image I designed for the BSC Telesummit.
I worked on the two cards initially as one piece. The first representing a more structured idea, the second inviting in more of an organic flow.
I eventually separated the two. The first I embellished with matte and shimmery water colors, Prismacolors, and paint pen. The second, I repeated some of the themes discovered in the first and began to tell a story about what is going on in my body. The circle with flowers and a heart is the symbol I have been exploring in my journals as I explore what it means to me to have uterine cancer. The ovaries have blossomed into flowers. (I later realized that it also resembles an orange…perhaps a Wild Orange!) The little snail is a recurring character in my art which I believe to represent curiosity.
I chose a box I had in my studio to hold my card collection. I intend to continue working with the cards and exploring them during my 21 Day Meditation Challenge.
